Sr. Maria Grace of the Peace of Christ

Sister Maria Grace Reis C.P. formally Sister Benita O.S.B, 90, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on December 19th, 2022 at Saint Walburg’s Infirmary. She was the daughter of Martha (nee Faulhaber) and Lawrence Reis. She was a graduate of Saints Peter and Paul School, California, KY and Campbell County High School. Being called by God to serve as a religious sister, she entered the Benedictines of St. Walburg’s monastery in Villa Hills receiving the name Sister Benita, O.S.B. There she began a journey into higher education in preparation for service in the areas of Nursing, at St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing, Psychology at Xavier University and Theology at St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota. In the late 60’s she transferred to the Passionist Nuns. The Passionist Congregation benefited immensely from the education she received as a Benedictine. She was preceded in death by her Parents; brothers, Arthur, and Theresa (nee Kramer) Reis, Ronald (surviving Helen nee Kramer) Reis. She is survived by her sister Frances (late Leo) Verst, Rhea (late Michael) Rauch, Leah (late Gary) Carmack. Also, a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Monday, December 26, 2022, at the Passionist Nuns’ Chapel, from 3 – 7 P.M., and 10am before the 11 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial, on Tuesday, December 27th.We are blessed to have Bishop John Iffert presiding. Burial will be immediately following at the Passionist Nuns Cemetery. Sister Maria Grace was a soul of peace, and she will be missed greatly by her family, community and friends.
